What we believe about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

God is great: He is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, Holy. It is in Him that we live, move, and exist. God is good. He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises.

  • Numbers 23:19
  • Leviticus 11:44-45, 19:2
  • Psalm 11:4-6
  • Malachi 3:6
  • John 3:16, 4:24, 5:26, 14:1
  • Acts 17:28;
  • Romans 3:3-4

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. He is completely human but, at the same time, completely God. He is the only plan for bringing people who are far from God back into a right relationship with God. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life, so that He could be a substitution for us in satisfying God’s demands for perfection, and show us life is to be lived. He defeated death in His resurrection so we can have life.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He provides Christians with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

  • Acts 1:8
  • John 14:16-17, 16:7-13
  • Galatians 5:25
  • 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16
  • Ephesians 1:13
  • 2 Corinthians 13:14
  • 1 Peter 1:2

The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives. It alone is the final authority in determining all doctrinal truths.

  • 2 Timothy 3:16
  • 2 Peter 1:20-21
  • Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6
  • Proverbs 30:5
  • Isaiah 55:11

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” Sin separates us from God and causes many problems in our life. We’re incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through our own efforts.

  • Genesis 1:27
  • Isaiah 53:6
  • Romans 3:23
  • Isaiah 59:1-2
  • Psalm 139:13-16
  • Colossians 2:13-15

Biblical Marriage is clearly defined as one man (born a man) united with one woman (born a woman) for life. This covenant is with God and should not be taken lightly or altered to fit personal preferences.

  • Genesis 2:22-24
  • Ephesians 5:22-33
  • Matthew 19:4-6
  • Mark 10:6-9

We believe that humanity is incapable on its own of establishing a relationship with God. The demands of a holy God requires death for sin, and it is Jesus alone, the sinless Lamb of God, who satisfies this demand through His death on the cross. God offers salvation to all who will place their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus as the complete and total payment for sin.

  • Isaiah 1:18, 53:5-6, 55:7
  • Matthew 1:21, 27:22-66, 28:1-6
  • Luke 1:68-69, 2:28-32
  • John 14:6, 1:12
  • Acts 16:31
  • Romans 5:1, 10:9-10
  • Galatians 2:16, 3:8
  • Ephesians 2:8-9
  • Titus 3:5
  • Hebrews 9:22
  • Revelation 3:20

We believe the Church is the visible expression of Jesus on the earth, referred to in Scripture as the “Body of Christ”. Made up of all who have placed their faith in the completed work of Christ on the cross, the church functions as a local community of worshippers who unite to live out the very heart and soul of God in caring for one another and extending His compassion, love, and truth to a needy world.

  • Matthew 16:18-19, 18:15-20
  • John 17:11, 20-23
  • Acts 2:41-47, 5:11-14, 13:1-3, 14:23, 16:5, 20:28
  • 1 Corinthians 7:17, 9:13-14
  • Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22, 3:10-12, 5:22-32

Christian Life

We believe that being a Christian, a follower of Jesus, is not simply a system of belief but a vital relationship with God that expresses itself in living in the way of Jesus. With every Christ follower being resourced with the power of the Holy Spirit, the truth of the Scriptures, and the local church, the expectation is one of continual life-change in being conformed to the very likeness of Jesus in both His person and purpose.
